Exquisite texture and warmth of feather are carefully portrayed in the watercolor paintings by U.K. wildlife artist Eric Peake. Studying mostly from private breeding collections, he is able to accumulate the essential research to ensure the paintings are technically correct. It is from this close observation he is able to study the behavior patterns and bonding of the species he paints. Although an avian artist most of his life, his work is now dedicated to the parrot species. He considers himself both a devoted aviculturist as well as conservationist realizing preservation especially of the endangered species relies on both working harmoniously together. Devoted to the birds he loves, he is an active worldwide fundraiser for conservation and research often lecturing on his belief Donations of his original paintings and limited edition prints have raised over $200,000. U.S. to date with his most recent original painting, 'Spix's Macaw and Young' selling for $23,500. U.S. at the III International Loro Parque Parrot Convention, Tenerife, Spain. All proceeds were donated by the artist to the Loro Parque Foundation for conservation and research. His work has supported many other organizations such as R.S.P.B., I.A.S., A.F.A., W.W.F., S.P.B.E., M.A.R.E., World Parrot Trust, International Societies for Budgerigars, Lovebirds, Lories and Amazon Parrots, Parrot Society, North of England Zoological Society, British Bird Council, Scarlet Macaw Project, Guatemala, Liverpool University and University of Georgia, Avian Research.
Eric's popularity and reputation as an artist, author and lecturer reflect his outstanding artistic talent and dedication to the birds he paints and loves. So much so he was commissioned in 1989 by the North of England Zoological Society to paint a pair of Princess of Wales parrots for H.R.H. Princess of Wales, Princess Diana. His work has been further recognized through special feature exhibitions at the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition. S.C., U.S.A. in 1991 and 1995 specializing in his parrot paintings and a 2 year U.K. Natural History Museum tour on parrots.
Currently working on a series of monographs of parrots, Eric devotes much time and attention to studying his subjects. Released in 1994, 'A Monograph of Macaws and Conures' contained plates from 40 original paintings. He is presently working on the paintings for the next volume, 'A Monograph of Amazons'. Collectively the paintings represent some of the finest parrot paintings ever produced.
Although his work demands worldwide travel, the majority of his painting is done in his home country of North Wales. Working predominately in watercolor he has the rare ability to capture in fine detail the mood and stance of the living bird. His work hangs in corporate, public and private collections worldwide. Eric continues to lecture and exhibit with the message ever present that extinction is forever.
